Uniting Disabilities UK is committed to promoting equality for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, political and religious views, or (most importantly) disability, illness, and impairment.
The primary aim of Uniting Disabilities is to promote social networking between both
individuals and organizations who share a common bond of striving to overcome in
their own specific circumstances, whether that struggle be related to employment,
education, housing, care, or many other different battles we can all face on a daily
basis. Independence is something many people take for granted, but for others it
can be a real battle just to obtain our basic needs never mind our rights? That's
where we come in because Uniting Disabilities aim is to become a “one-stop shop”
for information, advice, practical help, and , hopefully sometime in the future,
funding for projects specifically targeted at improving the quality of disabled peoples
lives. It is important to note that whilst we are not aligned to any one political
organization we aim to keep people advised of their rights and are prepared to offer
support to obtain said rights in whatever way necessary on an individual basis.
The
current Disability Discrimination legislation has, in our mind, far to many gaps
and loopholes that can be, and are being exploited? It is our experience that changing
the law by protests or other radical means, can, realistically, take far too long
so it may be more beneficial to get the best for people using the law as it stands?
The reality of disability is that the majority of us cannot wait years for goods
& services, we want (and need) them now! With that in mind, UD is committed to helping
people achieve their independence by any and all means within the framework of current
legislation.
The social networking side of what we do will be achieved by putting
people (and/or, groups) in touch with one another to enable a sharing of ideas and
a pooling of resources. Uniting Disabilities will, we hope, become an “umbrella organization”
bringing people and groups together who share a common mission. Future plans include
the construction of a national database that everyone can access which will contain
useful links and information in your local area.
